Ayurveda Medicine: The Foundation of Mind- Body Medicine

Ayurveda is the world's oldest medical system and is based on natural law. The word "Ayurveda" is derived from two Sanskrit words: Ayu, meaning life, and Veda, meaning knowledge of. It is the connectedness of all things in balance and wholeness. According to the Vedic texts, imbalance produces disease, disharmony, and fragmentation. Modern scientific research validates Ayurvedic medicine, and it is recognized by the World Health Organization.

Ayurveda was the principal system of medicine in India until the beginning of the 20th century. It gradually came to be replaced by Orthodox Western medicine, as more and more Indian students studied and trained in the new western surgical techniques, drugs and new approaches to hygiene during British rule.

In 1980, the National congress of India decided that Ayurveda medicine should hold equal status with the western medicine and funded many new Ayurvedic institutions. There are now more than 100 institutions, and demanding six-year training programs to ensure that their Ayurvedic gradutes are as rigorously trained as their western medical counterparts.

Dr. Bacon has been studying Ayurvedic medicine for over 30 years.  He has worked with many experts in the field including Dr. Vasant Lad, Dr. David Froley, Deepak Chopra, as well as a number of viges with the Maharishi Ayurvedic Medicine.  He is a certified instructor in mind-body healing with Chopra Center.
